THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES

My favorite song is "Hold Your Colour" by Pendulum. I like it because the lyrics don't make a lot of sense; they are open to interpretation. That's what I like in music, when lyrics don't have a set meaning and you are not forced to imagine one thing when you are listening to a song. I feel that this is similar to Judaism because there are so many different interpretations to the the laws. There are so many different commentaries by scholars, etc. It's a flexible belief system. People classify Pendulum in different genres. I would associate them most with drum-and-base.

My favorite cut is "Sympathy for the Devil," by the Rolling Stones. It's off the album "Beggars Banquet (my second favorite album of all time.) It's really cool. It has lots of Mick Jagger's swoonings and it's told from the Devil's point of view. He's just telling his story throughout all time, all the evil he's done. And at the end, he says "Have some sympathy, some taste, or I'll lay your soul to waste." Jews have been reviled in the worst way and called the evil many times. It's just kind of showing how you can look at things from a different point of view."

My favorite would be "Do You Realize?" by the Flaming Lips. It's about understanding that death is inevitable, but the world goes on. It recognizes the speed that life passes at, and if you don't make an attempt to make the good last, it just, like, floods by. It's important for us to connect to our Jewish heritage because it helps define our identity because, as the song states, identity vanishes in seemingly no time at all.

My favorite thing to listen to at the moment is the band Tilly and the Wall. I like them because their music is mostly happy, but they also have some slower, relaxing songs. The album I have is "Bottoms of Barrels." I love listening to them because it's the newest music I have. It's new to me. I also like the song "Banana Phone" because it makes me laugh everytime I listen to it.

Queen is the best band of ALL TIME, and it is not arguable. It is just the fact, dude. Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my favorite songs. I never used to be able to dance or move, because I was in a shell. But when I listen to that song, it's like nothing really matters. Anyone can see that "nothing really matters to me!" Everything is just "nothing really matters."

My favorite band I'd have to say is Pantera because Pantera is the greatest band ever even though Dimebag Darrel was shot. Although before he was shot he made a charity to put musical instruments in the hands of unfortunate kids, which i really like about him. I like it because its music that expresses inner feelings and its cool. My favorite song is The Sleep because when I was little I wrote a song on the piano that sounded just like it and then i heard it 5 years later. My good friend Tyler King introduced me to Pantera and now it is my favorite band.
Jena Baratz
My favorite singer is Taylor Swift because I like her music. It makes me happy because its the only country music I like. Love Story is my favorite song. I like the song because its about the perfect life that I want to have some day.
